Spring Training in Florida
Spring training in Florida is about to begin. On February 22, the training season kicks off. Although there are no training sites in Tallahassee, there are many throughout the state of Florida. Take a weekend getaway or a mini-vacation, and head to one of the sites to enjoy spring training.
Spring Training is an annual event that kicks off in February and ends on March 26th. In the 33 days, MLB teams refine their skills and prepare for the new season. This year, the action kicks off with the Tampa Bay Rays playing the Philadelphia Phillies. The game will take place at Charlotte Sports Park.
If you want to see one of the 238 games of spring training, you can head to one of the closer training sites. For example, the Atlanta Braves play at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee. Although the venue is a bit of a drive from Tallahassee, it’s a unique opportunity to see some MLB teams from other cities in the US.
Other games of note include the Minnesota Twins versus the Colorado Rockies in Fort Myers, as well as The Tampa Bay Rays versus Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
During spring training in Florida last year, over 1.5 million fans attended games. Since 2000, over 29 million fans have been in attendance.
