Annual Events Near Tallahassee: The Panacea Blue Crab Festival

There are several annual events near Tallahassee. If you don’t already have some of them marked on your calendar, it’s time that you did. The Panacea Blue Crab Festival is one of the more exciting events. Although it doesn’t take place until the spring, a little early planning can get you ready for the event.

What is the Panacea Blue Crab Festival?

The annual blue crab festival takes place near Tallahassee, in a town called Panacea. Last year, the event took place on May 3rd and 4th. But it wasn’t the first year of the festival. The event started off in 1975 as a small festival. At first, its main purpose was to show people the strength of the crab festival in Wakulla County.

Now, decades later, people know all about the crab industry. In fact, they flock to Panacea to enjoy the festival. The event kicks off with a parade and several other fun activities. Last year, there were opening ceremonies after the parade. Then, there was a mullet toss, a clogging performance, a crab picking contest, and musical performances.

In previous years, admission was about $3.00. Children who are under 12 didn’t need to pay for tickets.
